Brendan Allen and Becky Mandelbaum
+ Open Mic
5pm Sunday May 12th
May's reading will feature two local poets, both winners of the 2013 Langston Hughes Creative Writing Award: Brendan Allen and Becky Mandelbaum. The featured readers will follow an open mic session, so bring your best work to share.
Brendan Allen is a Lawrence poet and a 2013 winner of the Langston Hughes Creative Writing Award. Currently on the edge of finishing his B.A. at the University of Kansas, he's a co-founder and editor of The Siren, a national literary journal that features poetry, fiction, and nonfiction student writing. He's also served as a student director for KU's Undergraduate Reading Series. In June, he'll be traveling to Earthaven Ecovillage in North Carolina as part of a summer-long permaculture internship.
Becky Mandelbaum will soon graduate from the University of Kansas with a degree in English. She is a passage writer for the Kansas Assessment Program, a co-founder of KU's first online literary magazine, The Siren, and a pretty hard-core dog enthusiast.
