This reading is the second in a series of summer readings featuring Lawrence writers. Come out and support two talented local poets, both winners of this year's Langston Hughes Creative Writing Awards. And bring some of your own poetry to share in the open mic session that precedes the featured writers.
Amy Ash is a
graduate of the MFA program at New Mexico State University and is currently
pursuing a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Kansas. She has served as Assistant Poetry Editor for
Puerto del Sol and as Poetry Editor for Beecher’s Magazine. Recently, she has been elected as the new
Co-Editor of Beecher’s. Her poems
have been published in various journals, including Lake Effect, Cimarron Review, Harpur Palate, and Mid-American Review. Most recently, she
has a poem forthcoming in Kansas City
Voices. Amy is a Pushcart nominee
and the recipient of an Academy of
American Poets prize, and she shared the 2012 Langston Hughes Award for poetry.
She lives in Lawrence with her husband,
Daniel, and their baby daughter, Ryan.
Callista Buchen has an MA in literature from the University of Oregon and an MFA in creative writing-poetry from Bowling Green State University, and is currently a second-year PhD candidate in English and creative writing at the University of Kansas. Her poetry and prose are forthcoming or have appeared in Bellevue Review, Pear Noir!, elimae, Gargoyle, Gigantic, A cappella Zoo, PANK, jmww, and many other journals. Her reviews have appeared in Mid-American Review, The Collagist, The Literary Review, and Prick of the Spindle. Winner of the 2012 Langston Hughes creative writing award in fiction, she has been nominated for Best New Poets and the Pushcart prize.
